Spiritual Direction Agreement

Our Relationship

We are meeting together to help you examine and develop your spiritual life. Spiritual direction is a contemplative practice of helping another person or group to awaken to the mystery of God in all of life, and to respond to that discovery in a growing relationship of freedom and commitment. As a spiritual director, I recognize that God has called each person into being through God’s own love and God desires to be the true Director and Guide for each soul. Through prayer and reflective listening, I serve as the human spiritual companion/director to help you discern the work of the Spirit in your life.

Although I believe it is appropriate at times to discuss psychological and relational difficulties in the context of spiritual direction, I am not a psychotherapist, nor do I provide such services. Similarly, you recognize that spiritual direction is not financial advice and any decisions and actions you may take in that regard are done without our advice or recommendation, and are purely your responsibility.

I am a member of Grafted Life -- an association of Christian spiritual directors. As a member, I have agreed to maintain their shared Code of Ethics in order to offer the best of myself to spiritual direction and my directees.

Our Meetings

Our sessions will be guided by how you sense God is leading you. We will begin each session with some silence to be attentive to the direction of the Spirit. Often in that time you may discern something for us to explore together, or you may already have something in mind as we come together. However, when necessary I am also glad to ask questions to help prompt how God might be at work in our time together.

When meeting online, please find a quiet place to meet with a reliable internet connection. This will ensure the best sense of presence for each or us.

Time of Sessions and Changes

We mutually commit to begin and end our sessions on time. If you wish to change your appointment, please let me know at least 24 hours in advance by email. Without this advance notice, you will pay for the appointment time. I will not call or send you reminders for the sessions, though I will send an invite at the time of scheduling.

The most typical rhythm is a monthly, 50 minute session, but you may desire to meet more frequently or for a longer session periodically, and that is fine, as long as we schedule in advance. If you would like to share an update or concern with me in between sessions, you are welcome to email me or leave a voice mail.

Confidentiality

I will hold our conversations in strict confidence, regarding our time together as sacred, whether they are by in person, by telephone, online media, or email. I will not reveal the content of our conversations unless we are required to do so by law or court order. On the other hand, you are free to share whatever you choose about our conversations with anyone.

It is a standard practice for directors to receive supervision as a way to grow in their practice or gain expanded perspectives. This is done be recreating portions of sessions with other spiritual directors in a way that eliminates identifying details. If you prefer to opt out from having any of our sessions reviewed within supervision, you may let me know at any time.

Fee and Payment

The requested fee per 50 minute session is $90 (USD). In the case that the requested rate would prohibit you from taking spiritual direction, we can work out a rate that you can afford. We will agree upon the amount before our first session. You can pay online via the multiple options on my payment page or by check.
